Popcorn Ceilings
Anyone hate popcorn ceilings as much as I do. My husband and I have figured out a way to change them without actually scraping the whole ceiling. In our living room we have made a grid and put crown moulding and pot lignts. It looks awsome. In our dinging room we put crown moulding and a medallion in the center with minimal scraping around it. In our bedroom we scraped about a foot from edges and put crown moulding up and another moulding and added two chandeliers. Look for photos soon. Sorry I don't have them just yet. In the next few days, I will have photos to showcase what we have done. We think we did such s nice job and ohers who have seen the finished touches have been very impressed.

Look forward to seeing those photos and how you transformed the room.
Karen...your ceilings sound nice! I'm not quite sure what 'stucco ceilings' are but I am look forward to see the pictures! We took off 'popcorn ceileings' about 3 years ago...what a mess. And it's taken 3 years to get the ceiling to look half way decent again. I feel a blog coming on :)
I was going to say the same thing that Mary just said. I haven't seen any stucco ceilings. I bet they are real heavy. Actually, I know what you mean. I changed mine by replacing the Sheetrock. Depending on the age of the texturing compound, some may contain asbestos and extreme care should be used while stripping off the texturing compound.
sounds very interesting. I will be very curious to see the pics as well. Sounds like a good idea for clients looking at fixers.
Waiting to see your pictures.. sounds like a great idea.
I'd like to see photos. I've had clients who've wondered how to fix them, at least now I can answer them!
I also want to see photos. I have textured ceilings that I HATE in my home. They are not the classic popcorn... they are done with joint compound, in a swirll pattern. It is a very popular method in my area.
Sorry everyone, I did actually mean popcorn ceilings. They look stucco to me.
Karen, I hope that when you scraped your ceiling you wore a good mask or respirator. Most of those popcorn ceilings contained asbestos, which is at its most dangerous when airborne. Please be careful.
Thanks for the tip David. We wet them and then scraped them.
